DIRECTOR GENERAL OF LIGHTHOUSES AND LIGHTSHIPS

The circular seal of the Director General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) has a lighthouse and a lightship on water placed on a light blue background along with ‘दीपस्तंभ दीपपोत’ meaning ‘Lighthouse Lightship’. These are ensconced in a red circular border on which ‘Lighthouses Lightships’ and ‘India’ are inscribed. Below this ‘भारत’ is written. At the bottom, on a blue banner its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ is written.

PARAVANI The Paravani, Mayil, Mayura or the peacock is the vahana or vehicle of the Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves.
