All India Institute of Medical Sciences Deogarh (AIIMS Deoghar) is one of the apex healthcare institutes being established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Its emblem is circular and predominantly blue in colour. The colour blue signifies purity, cleanliness, trust and wisdom and the purest of colours white signifies freedom and peace. Its outer border consists of a wheel which signifies moving time. It symbolises that as time moves the institution will continue to develop and attain great heights. The sun has been a symbol of power, growth, health, passion and the cycle of life in many cultures and religions throughout time. Some believe it is a representation of the higher self, while the Hindu worship the sun as a God. The lotus symbolises purity, enlightenment and self-regeneration. Open book with ECG lines symbolises wealth of knowledge, learning and wisdom. And the ECG lines represent the use of laboratories to help diagnosis. It also represents life. The olive leaves are associated with sports, a laurel wreath symbolises victory and honour. The rod of Caduceus which was said to be carried by the messenger God, Hermes in Greek mythology. Although it is a symbol of trade and commerce, it is often mistaken as the Rod of Asclepius or rod of medicine which only consists of a single serpent instead of two serpents intertwined on the rod. This misunderstanding normally arises due to recognition of only aesthetic needs. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘आरोग्यम् परमं सुखम्’ means ‘Health is the Biggest Blessing’ that can be bestowed upon a person. It means that health can enable a person to pursue his dreams to the fullest.
