ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES NAGPUR |
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur is one among the four AIIMS announced during the budget speech 2014-15 under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Its yellow, orange and red circular emblem has its name inscribed on its border in Devanagari and English and within the circle motifs have been placed. At the bottom of the circle is its motto in Sanskrit ‘स्वास्थ्यं सर्वार्थसाधनम्’. The orange colour of our logo represents enthusiasm, joy, warmth, sunshine and creativity. It also represents Nagpur, the Orange City. Olive leaves are associated with sports. A laurel wreath symbolises victory and honour. The open book symbolises wealth of knowledge, learning and wisdom. Golden lines on the book represent the writing of history in golden letters. The inner circle represents the infinite nature of energy and inclusivity of the universe. Outer circle symbolises security, continuity and protection. Wings around the rod represent the Caduceus, staff of Hermes, which symbolise medical staff. Stars symbolise brightness and glory. Snakes are regarded as sacred and used in healing rituals to honour Asclepius, as snake venom was thought to be remedial and their skin-shedding was viewed as a symbol of rebirth and renewal. The graduation cap symbolises intelligence, distinction and leadership. The Sanskrit motto means ‘Everything can be achieved with Good Health’.
