The three meshed gears refer to the technical and engineering focus of the institution; the hand holding a spanner refers to manufacturing, engineering, or technology in practice; the map refers to the institute’s national identity and its service to the country and the drawing board and accessories refer to engineering design, planning and development.

At the bottom, a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘‘கற்றனைத் தூறும் அறிவு’ (Thiruvalluvar, 396, Thirukkural) meaning ‘Knowledge Grows As Much As One Learns’ is inscribed is placed on the seal. Athiyaman and Avvaiyar refer to history and heritage; the book, sun and the humans refer to education and educational achievement; the tree refers to nature, sustenance and growth; the computer refers to technology; and the dam refers to the local landmark.
