The pictorial emblem of Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) has three meshed gears with one housing a motif of a hand holding a spanner; the middle one with a map of Bharat or India superscribed with its initials in red and surmounted and supported by its motto ‘In the Service of India’ and the one on the right housing the motifs of a drawing board with T-square and a set-square. The three meshed gears refer to the technical and engineering focus of the institution; the hand holding a spanner refers to manufacturing, engineering, or technology in practice; the map refers to the institute’s national identity and its service to the country and the drawing board and accessories refer to engineering design, planning and development.
