V.S. SIVALINGAM CHETTIAR GOVERNMENT ARTS COLLEGE (VSSGAC) The emblem of V.S. Sivalingam Chettiar Government Arts College (VSSGAC) features the gopuram of Sri Sashivarneswarar Temple, the motifs of an open book, a rising sun over a pond with lotus. These are ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college in Tamil. Below the seal, on a red banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘ ‘மெய்ப்பொருள் காண்பது அறிவு’ (423, Thirukkural, Thiruvalluvar) meaning ‘To Discern the Truth is Wisdom’ is written. The gopuram of the temple symbolises to the local heritage, history and divine blessings and guidance; the book refers to education, learning and wisdom; the sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; and the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty.
