SOUTH INDIA TEXTILE RESEARCH ASSOCIATION

The circular greenish blue emblem of South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) has a white circle housing ‘S’ denoting a rotating bobbin of thread ensconced by a greenish blue border with a thin outline bearing its acronym ‘SITRA’ and its motto ‘Service for Excellence’. The greenish blue colour symbolises refreshment, tranquillity, harmony, prosperity, renewal, regeneration, calmness and peace.

The name and place of the college is written around the circle. A purple laurel supports the seal. The mountains and river refer to the local topography of snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan mountain ranges; the lightning bolt symbiosis raw energy, power, enlightenment, and the sparking of knowledge; and the laurels represent a traditional laurel wreath, which symbolises academic triumph, victory and the pursuit of honour.

An image of Goddess Saraswati is placed on the right and an image of a palm tree placed on the right. All these are ensconced by red circular outlines and surmounted by the name of the college. SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
