The circular seal of ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Sciences (IISS) has motifs of earth with worms, insects, ground water, stone layer, a laboratory flask, a borewell, a plant with roots and three leaves, sky with clouds and its motto in Sanskrit ‘मृदा ददाति पोषणं माता सा सर्वेषाम्’  meaning ‘The Soil Gives Nourishment, She is the Mother of All’. All these motifs represent the soil and its constituents, which give it its character and properties. These also duly denote the scope and domain of research work carried out by the Institute. These motifs are held in a circle with black outline, which is ensconced in a white border with black outline, on which its name and year of inception are inscribed.
