The hands are supported by its year of inception; its tagline in Sanskrit ‘The Customer is equivalent to God’ meaning ‘ग्राहक देवो भव’ and a pair of shaking hands. The bag of money held by hands denote wealth, safeguarding and protecting of money and the shaking hands refer to cooperation, support, unity, togetherness and strength.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi.
