EMPLOYEES STATE INSURANCE CORPORATION

The promulgation of Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948 (ESI Act), by the Parliament was the first major legislation on social security for workers in independent India. This facilitated the establishment of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Its emblem has a lighted lamp with five wicks in a traditional lamp in a brownish red background, which symbolises the spirit of the scheme by lighting up lives of the employees and their families by providing help in times of physical and financial distress. Below this its acronym in Devanagari and English are written. All these are ensconced in a circle with a border, which has its tag line 'Samajik Suraksha' in Devanagari and 'Social Security' in English.
