THE SIKH LIFE INFANTRY
The Sikh Light Infantry finds its origins in the Sikh Pioneers raised in 1857. Sikh Pioneers were used in various military campaigns in India and abroad and highly regarded for their determined resolve to complete the assigned tasks against all opposition. The Sikh Pioneers were later merged into the Sappers and Miners. World War-II and its need for additional troops saw the rise of Mazhabi and Ramdasia Sikhs as a regiment in 1941. The designation was changed to the Sikh Light Infantry in 1944. Its Regimental Centre is Fatehgarh, Uttar Pradesh and its Regimental insignia is a sharp-edged ‘Quoit’ or ‘Chakra’, used by the Sikhs in combat, mounted with a ‘Kirpan’, the Sikh dagger. Its Regimental Motto is ‘Deg Teh Fateh’ (Prosperity in Peace and Victory in War) and its war cry is ‘Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal’ (He who cries God is Truth, is Ever Happy).

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.

ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES JODHPUR All India Institute of Medical Sciences Jodhpur (AIIMS Jodhpur) is one of the six new AIIMS established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) with the aim of correcting regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attaining self sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education. Its circular insignia in gold and blue has the traditional symbol of the Caduceus to represent medicine. This symbol derives from Hermes or Mercury, the winged messenger and a staff intertwined by two snakes. It is crested by its motto in Sanskrit ‘सर्वे सन्तु निरमयाः’, meaning ‘Let them all be Free of Illness’ and below this it is supported by a pair of laurels. This is ensconced by a circular border on which its name is written in Devnagari and English.
