The foundation stone was laid on February 28,1994 and the college was inaugurated on August 20, 1995 by the Chief Minister Sardar Beant Singh. The emblem of the university has a circular gear wheel outer with red circular outline. The central light colour circle has the motifs of a factory with smoking chimney, a dish antenna, a computer, a mechanical equipment and a banner with the motto in Punjabi ‘ਨਿਸਚੈ ਕਰ ਅਪਨੀ ਜੀਤ ਕਰੋ’ meaning ‘Make Sure You Win’ inscribed on it. These are ensconced by a yellow circular border, which carries the name of the university and its place. The gear wheel signifies interconnectedness; efficiency and precision; progress and advancement; synchronisation and timing and order and structure and the motifs denote the fields of engineering the university offers.
