GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE NAGROTA SURIAN (GC NAGROTA SURIAN)

The emblem of Government Degree College Nagrota Surian (GC Nagrota Surian) features a shield housing the motifs of rising sun, an open book with quill pen and water waves. The shield is crested by the motto of the college in Sanskrit‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ (Rishi Parāśara, 1,19.41, Viṣṇu Purāṇa) meaning ‘Knowledge is the One That Liberates’. The name and place of the college is written below the shield. The rising sun represents the dawn of illumination and awareness, signifying how education dispels the darkness of ignorance; the book is a universal symbol of formal learning, structured knowledge and literacy; the quill pen represents creativity, expression and the pursuit of writing and literature; the wavy lines symbolise rivers, pointing directly to the geographic proximity of the college to local water bodies, most notably the Pong Dam lake reservoir (Maharana Pratap Sagar) in Nagrota Surian; and the shield traditionally signifies the preservation and protection of knowledge, culture and high values.
