GOVERNMENT POST-GRADUATE COLLEGE, CHOWARI (GC CHOWARI)

The emblem of Government Post-Graduate College, Chowari (GC Chowari) features a circle housing the green colour motif of a mountain range with peaks, red and yellow rising sun and an open book. The circle is ensconced by a red colour border inscribed with the name of the college in Devanagari. The motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘आरोह तमसो ज्योति’ (1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘Rise from Darkness Toward the Light’ is inscribed on a green banner, which is placed on the seal at the bottom. The snow-capped mountains represent the picturesque and serene setting of the college, nestled in the scenic lap of nature near the Basodan Pass in the Bhattiyat Valley; the rising sun symbolises the dawn of knowledge, enlightenment and the dispelling of the darkness of ignorance; the green hills and valley emphasize the pristine environment and the rural communities that the college serves; and the open book is a universal symbol for higher education, learning and academic excellence.
