SHAHEED CAPTAIN VIKRAM BATRA GOVERNMENT COLLEGE, PALAMPUR (SCVB GOVERNMENT COLLEGE, PALAMPUR)

The emblem of Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Government College, Palampur (SCVB Government College, Palampur) features a circle housing an image of Goddess Saraswati supported by a mountain range with peaks and green deodar trees, a red banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’, an open book and wavy lines. The circle is ensconced by a circular border with red outlines inscribed with the name and place of the college. Goddess Saraswati is the God of knowledge, wisdom, music, the arts and learning. She is depicted seated on a lotus, playing the Veena. Her presence signifies the institution's primary focus on nurturing intellect, cultural education and artistic growth. The snow-capped mountain peaks refer to the Dhauladhar Mountain Range; the deodar trees represent the physical location of the college; the book serves as a universal symbol for formal education, higher learning and accessible academic progression; and the wavy lines or ripples depict flowing water, symbolising the local pristine rivers or streams (kuhls) of Palampur.
