The emblem of Freedom Fighter Pandit Susheel Rattan Government Degree College Jawalamukhi (GC Jawalamukhi) features a yellow circle with blue outline housing the motifs of a blue ‘mantap’ with orange radiant dome with a prayerbell, an open book and a traditional lamp and the motto of the in Sanskrit ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ Rishi Parāśara, 1,19.41, Viṣṇu Purāṇa) meaning ‘Knowledge is the One That Liberates’. The circle is ensconced by a red circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. The ‘mantap’ or place used for public or private rituals, prayers or ceremonies in temple architecture housing the book, lamp and bell symbolises the reverence accorded to the process of learning and education and the sanctity attached to the whole process of education, learning and acquisition of knowledge. The lamp symbolises wisdom, spiritual awakening and the enlightenment that dispels darkness; the book represents the universal storehouse of structured knowledge, formal learning and modern curriculum; the dome or arch symbolises the town of Jwalamukhi and its famous Shri Jawalamukhi Mata Temple, which is named after the natural, ever-burning blue flames that continuously emerge from rock fissures inside the shrine; and the red colour represents courage, vitality and passion for knowledge.
