The emblem of Government Degree College Shahpur (GC Shahpur) features a circle with brown outline housing the motifs of a landscape of a mountain range, a traditional lamp, a nib of a pen, a star, a scripture inscribed with the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘असतो मा सद्गमय तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘From Unreal Lead Me to the Real. From Darkness Lead Me to Light’, and a pair of ‘paduka’ or footprints of Shaktipeeth Shri Bajreshwari Devi of Nagarkot. The name and place of the college is written on a banner placed below the seal. The star represents high aspirations, guidance and the pursuit of excellence; the nib of a pen symbolises freedom, intelligence, creativity, professionalism, determination and diligence; the lighted lamp represents the eradication of the darkness of ignorance through the light of knowledge and wisdom; the mountain range mirrors the scenic Shivalik Himalayan peaks and slopes surrounding the college campus; the scripture or palm leaf is a universal symbol of formal education, academic pursuits and the vast reservoir of knowledge offered by the institution; and the 'paduka' refer to the divine guidance and blessings.
