The emblem of Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu (GGM SC Jammu) features three orange and cyan feathers held by a royal coronet with a scroll inscribed with the motto ‘Ich Dien’ of the college in Old German, which translates to ‘I Serve’. The name of the college surmounts the motifs and its year of establishment is written at the bottom. The college was originally established in 1905 as the Prince of Wales College to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales (later King George V) to Jammu. Because of this royal connection, the institution adopted the official heraldic badge of the Heir Apparent to the British throne. Even after independence, when the institution was renamed in honour of Mahatma Gandhi, the college retained its historic heritage crest. The three feathers of the crest feature a plume of three ostrich feathers. In classic heraldry, this design is known as the Prince of Wales's feathers. It historically represents dignity, high status and virtue. The gold crown or coronet represents the patronage of the royal family under which the college was chartered during the British Raj. The motto denotes humility, dedication and a commitment to public service. In an educational setting, it emphasises the institution's commitment to serving students, the community and the pursuit of knowledge. It is felt that this emblem reminds of British imperialism and it is high time to change it more Indian and contemporary.
