The lotus symbolises purity, humility and the unfolding of knowledge and spiritual enlightenment; the mountain range signifies the geographical setting of Jammu (near the Himalayas) while representing high aspirations, strength and overcoming challenges; the the book symbolises formal education; and the sun denotes illumination, truth and the dispelling of ignorance.
