GOVERNMENT COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, BHAGWATI NAGAR (GCWBN)

The emblem of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar (GCWBN) features a circle with blue outline housing the motifs of an open book, a glowing sun with radiant rays, alighted candle and a lighted candle and the tagline of the college ‘Character is Supreme’ placed on the background of a blue sky, green grass and water. The year of the establishment of the college is written on the book. The circle is surmounted by the college’s motto in Sanskrit ‘ज्ञानप्रसारो व्रतम्’, ‘From Darkness to Light’ and ‘اندھیرے سے روشنی کی طرف’ and supported by a pair of green laurels. The initials of the college and the place of the college are written on a red banner placed below the seal. The background of mountains, greenery and water  represent the local, scenic topography of the Jammu region and signify aiming for peak achievements; the book acts as a universal symbol of formal education, knowledge acquisition and wisdom; the sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; the lit candle visually communicates the transformation of an individual through education - dispelling the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge; and the laurels traditionally represent honour, victory, peace and academic excellence.

COTTON UNIVERSITY Cotton University (CU) was formerly known as Cotton College, the institute was established in 1901 by Sir Henry Stedman Cotton, the Chief Commissioner of the erstwhile British province of Assam. It became a constituent college of Gauhati University in 1948. In 2011 the Cotton College State University was established vide an Act of the Government of Assam, with the college as a constituent. Cotton University came into being in 2017 through The Cotton University Act, 2017 that enabled the unification of Cotton College State University and Cotton College. PALLAVA DYNASTY - BULL The Pallava Dynasty existed from 275 CE to 897 CE, ruling a significant portion of the Deccan, also known as Thondaimandalam. The dynasty rose to prominence after the downfall of the Satavahana dynasty, with whom they had formerly served as feudatories. The Pallavas became a major South Indian power during the reign of Mahendravarman I(600–630 CE) and Narasimhavarman I (630–668 CE), dominating for about 600 years, until the end of the 9th century. Kancheepuram served as the capital of the Pallava kingdom.  They developed the Pallava script, from which, Grantha ultimately took form. This script eventually gave rise to several other Southeast Asian scripts such Khmer. The Chinese traveller Xuanzang visited Kanchipuram during Pallava rule and extolled their benign rule.
