The emblem of Government Model Degree College, Zanskar (GMDC Zanskar) features a yellow circle housing the motifs of a globe with grid lines, Dharmachakra with a Swastika, a rising sun, a star and crescent moon, an open book and four lotuses and the motto of the college in Tibetan script, ensconced by brown and green circular outlines. The seal is supported by a brown banner inscribed with the name and place of the college. The Dharmachakra or the Wheel of Dharma with Swastika represents the profound Buddhist heritage of the Zanskar region. The Dharmachakra symbolises the turning of the wheel of wisdom and law, while the ancient Swastika nested at its core signifies peace, auspiciousness and well-being. The star and the crescent moon reflect the Islamic heritage of the Kargil district. The globe with stylised latitude and longitude grid lines symbolise the universality of education. It underscores the institution’s mission to connect students from a remote trans-Himalayan region to global career opportunities and modern knowledge systems. The book is the foundational symbol of higher learning, literacy, and continuous scholarship and the radiant sun signifies the enlightenment that dispels the darkness of ignorance through academic pursuit. The four blooming lotus flowers symbolise purity, spiritual growth and resilience. Just as a lotus blooms perfectly out of mud, this represents achieving high educational excellence regardless of geographical or environmental adversities. The Tibetan inscription asserts the local cultural identity, carrying the foundational motto or name of the academic community.
