The emblem of Government Polytechnic for Women, Hindupur (GPWH) features a shield denoting denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery inscribed with the motifs of a computer, a transmission tower, a scroll with mortarboard hat and a mortar and pestle symbolising engineering education, and educational achievement. The shield is surmounted by a banner inscribed with the name of the college and supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college ‘Genuine Path for Wisdom’.

The mountains and river refer to the local topography of snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan mountain ranges; the lightning bolt symbiosis raw energy, power, enlightenment, and the sparking of knowledge; and the laurels represent a traditional laurel wreath, which symbolises academic triumph, victory and the pursuit of honour.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
