The gearwheel denotes interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the computer refers to technology and engineering; the Sri Sudarshan Chakra symbolises the mind and creativity and it is also a weapon to destroy evil, divine guidance and blessings.

Engineering education in BHU started in 1919 with the establishment of Banaras Engineering College (BENCO).
