The circular emblem of Sant Gahira Guru Vishwavidyalaya (SGCG), formerly known a s Sarguja University has a circular border in orange and green and has its name, place and motto inscribed in Devanagari and supported by a pair of tribal ornaments. The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’. Inside the border, motifs of a drum, supported by a pair of horns; an open book topped by a red sun ; a banyan tree and a pair of crests of millets are placed. The banyan tree symbolises strength, individuality, expression, calmness, growth, the interconnectedness of everything and perpetuity; the sun denotes life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; the open book denotes knowledge, education, wisdom and learning and horns, drum and crests of millets denote tribal culture and food.
