The red and blue emblem of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has a shield which denotes the strength of knowledge and education, which houses the motifs of a dam; mortar, pestle and Rx and DNA chain;  a lamp, book, computer and gear wheel; humans with a clock. the domains of engineering the university offers. Below the shield, on a banner its motto in Sanskrit ‘समुचित ज्ञान समन्वय:’ meaning ‘Gathering and Disseminating Knowledge’ is inscribed. Below these, motifs of a globe representing internationalisation; bulb with spark in mind symbolising innovation; a human with multi directional arrows meaning multiple disciplines of the university and the four connecting lines in red denote synchronisation of all the three. The colour red symbolises courage, strength and passion and the colour blue symbolises serenity, intelligence and responsibility.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
