Lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; Lord Ganesh symbolises wisdom, intellect, and the removal of obstacles and the open book denotes learning, knowledge, education and wisdom.

The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’. DIRECTORATE GENERAL FIRE SERVICES The circular emblem of Directorate General Fire Services has a red shield holding flames of fire housed in a blue circle. It is ensconced by a white border, which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘त्राणाय सेवयामहे’ and ‘We Serve to Save’. It is surrounded by a glowing sun or fire over which the fourth or outer circle sits referring to extinguishing fire. These are placed inside four concentric circles with blue outlines.
