The motto is written in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’. Inside the border, motifs of a drum, supported by a pair of horns; an open book topped by a red sun ; a banyan tree and a pair of crests of millets are placed. DIRECTORATE GENERAL FIRE SERVICES The circular emblem of Directorate General Fire Services has a red shield holding flames of fire housed in a blue circle. It is ensconced by a white border, which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘त्राणाय सेवयामहे’ and ‘We Serve to Save’. It is surrounded by a glowing sun or fire over which the fourth or outer circle sits referring to extinguishing fire. These are placed inside four concentric circles with blue outlines. The red shield denotes protection, safety and courage in controlling and holding fire and the blue lines denote water which is antagonistic to fire.
