The blue and grey emblem of Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) has its acronym ‘GMU’ written using Copperplate Gothic with the diagonal strokes of ‘M’ treated as an anchor, which is synonymous with maritime culture. The name of the university is written below the monogram. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा  ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ is inscribed. The colour blue is the symbol of sea, ocean, vastness, serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.

On the top right corner is the Rod of Aesculapius (also called Asklepios), the ancient mythical god of medicine. No. 15 Squadron NO 15 SQUADRON The No. 15 Squadron of Indian Air Force was formed on August 2, 1951 at Ambala. In 1983, the ‘Flying Lances’ were the first MiG-21 Bis squadron in the Air Force to be modified for the Matra Magic R55, air to air missiles. The squadron was again number plated in 2009 and re-raised in 2012 on the Su-30 at Sirsa AFS. The No. 15 Squadron’s motto is ‘Nihantavya Shatava’ meaning ‘Annihilate the Enemy’. This Squadron is also called ‘Flying Lances’. Its insignia has a flying lancer in the centre with a ball of fire background. It currently operates the Mikoyan MiG-21 from Jodhpur.
