The Maganbhai Adenwala Mahagujarat University (MAMU) has a circular seal held by a pair of hands in brown colour and is crested by a piece of ornament. The seal holds a golden globe of the world and is ensconced by a border, on which its name is inscribed. At the bottom of the seal an open book supports a glowing traditional lamp, below which its year of establishment is written. At the bottom on a brown and gold banner the motto of the university is inscribed in Sanskrit ‘विद्या वितर्कः विज्ञानम्’ meaning ‘Knowledge is Reasoning and Science’. The colour gold denotes wealth, prosperity, power, prestige and achievement; the colour brown denotes the earthiness, simplicity, stability, humility, warmth, reliability, endurance, timelessness and tradition; the globe symbolises education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness; the open book symbolises knowledge, wisdom, education and learning and the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
