The predominantly green emblem of Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) is a monogram created using its acronym ‘JAU’ with a motif of peanut in the counter. At the bottom its motto in Sanskrit ‘कृषिमूलम् जगत् सर्वम्’ meaning ‘Agriculture is the Root of the Whole World’. The peanut represents the major agricultural produce of the region and the colour green denotes agriculture, nature, growth, balance, harmony, environment, prosperity, vitality, prestige, wealth and being very down to earth.

Engineering education in BHU started in 1919 with the establishment of Banaras Engineering College (BENCO). The next stage of development saw the establishment of College of Technology (TECHNO) and College of Mining & Metallurgy (MINMET).
