The circular greenish blue and light green emblem of Institute of Infrastructure Technology Research and Management (IITRAM) has a circle with the motifs of satellite communication, a large dam of water and an electrical distribution tower. These are ensconced by a circular border on which its name and place are inscribed. The circumference of the border is decorated with motifs of a number of human beings holding their hands together. The motifs symbolise the branches of engineering and science the university offers; the humans holding hands denote unity is strength. The colours are sober and friendly and attractive for its simplicity.

Engineering education in BHU started in 1919 with the establishment of Banaras Engineering College (BENCO).
