UTKAL UNIVERSITY OF CULTURE The Utkal University of Culture (UUC) came into existence by virtue of an ordinance promulgated on June, 9, 1999, which was later replaced by Utkal University of Culture Act 1999. The university’s emblem has the Wheel of Konark supported by a base with its motto in Sanskrit ‘सा प्रथमा संस्कृति र्बिश्वबारा’ meaning ‘That First Culture is Universe’ above. This is ensconced in a rectangle with the name of the university and place in Odia on top and in English at the bottom. The Wheel of Konark is called the wheel of life, dharma and law. It is a symbol of the sun god Surya. It is found on the Konark Sun Temple, which is located in Odisha, India. The temple was built in the thirteenth century and is one of the most important Hindu temples in the world.

JAWAHARLAL NEHRU ARCHITECTURE AND FINE ARTS UNIVERSITY The emblem of Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) has a pink rose with a pair of pink leaves ensconced by a gear wheel. These are circumscribed by a border on which the name and palace of the university is inscribed. At the bottom its motto in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is written. Below that its acronym ‘JNAFAU’ is written. PALLAVA DYNASTY - BULL The Pallava Dynasty existed from 275 CE to 897 CE, ruling a significant portion of the Deccan, also known as Thondaimandalam. The dynasty rose to prominence after the downfall of the Satavahana dynasty, with whom they had formerly served as feudatories. The Pallavas became a major South Indian power during the reign of Mahendravarman I(600–630 CE) and Narasimhavarman I (630–668 CE), dominating for about 600 years, until the end of the 9th century. Kancheepuram served as the capital of the Pallava kingdom.  They developed the Pallava script, from which, Grantha ultimately took form. This script eventually gave rise to several other Southeast Asian scripts such Khmer. The Chinese traveller Xuanzang visited Kanchipuram during Pallava rule and extolled their benign rule.
