The book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom; the nib symbolises freedom, intelligence, creativity, professionalism, determination and diligence; the mortarboard or Oxford hat refers to denote educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; and the gearwheel denotes interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure.
