TRAVANCORE ENGINEERING COLLEGE (TCE)

The cyan and dark blue circular seal of Travancore Engineering College (TCE) features an abstract motif of a multi-layered entrance with an interesting facade supported by its tagline ‘My Lord Increase My Knowledge’ ensconced by a circular border inscribed with its name and place. Below the seal the name of the college and its initials are placed. The archway resembles a mihrab, which is a semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the qibla (the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca), and towards which Muslims pray which is a sacred space for worship and the colour cyan signifies sky, hope and spring, peace, tranquillity, calmness, relaxation and emotional balance.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
