The Patna Metro, an urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) with two lines and 24 stops, is being built in Patna, the capital city of Bihar, by Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL). The thirty six kilometre Patna Metro project’s Phase 1 Detailed Project Report (DPR) was created by RITES and was accepted by Bihar State Government on February 9, 2016. On September 25, 2018, the Bihar government approved the formation of the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (PMRCL), which in turn named the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as the General Consultant (GC) to help with its execution. The project will reportedly receive a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency as part of its official development aid (ODA) (JICA). In July 2021, PMRC organised a competition to design the logo of Patna Metro, inviting the public to take part, with prizes on offer for the best submissions. On April (6) 7, 2023, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar released the official logo of Patna Metro, while launching the second tunnel boring machine (TBM) near Moinul Haque stadium in Patna for construction of the underground section of the project. The logo has been selected out of over 7500 designs received from different states in India. Its hexagonal bright blue emblem has the details in white, with a ‘P’ for Patna and ‘R’ for rail, with a pair of parallel lines entering from one side and exiting from the other. Below this ‘Patna Metro’ is written.
