Below the seal, on a banner, the motto of the college ‘Creativity Through Science & Management is inscribed. The computer and the factory refers to science, technology and engineering; the mortarboard hat or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; the globe refers to education, knowledge, influence, timelessness, global unity and interconnectedness; the map symbolises the college’s nationalistic orientation; the veena refers to arts, culture, heritage and history; and palmyrah palm tree is the State Tree of the State of Tamilnadu.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written.
