The emblem of Raja Shiv Prasad College, Jharia (RSP College) features a lotus on water and a traditional lamp, the name of the place in Devanagari and its motto in Sanskrit ‘उत्तिष्ठत जाग्रत’ (Mantra 14, Valli 3, Chapter 1, Kathopanishad) meaning ‘Arise, Awake’. These are ensconced by a sunburst like circular border inscribed with the name of the college and its year of establishment. The lotus symbolises purity, enlightenment and resilience. The lamp is a traditional symbol of the light of learning that dispels the darkness of ignorance. the sunburst with jagged, circular border represents a sun, symbolising the source of enlightenment and the widening of the mind and spirit.

The central motifs of the winged Staff of Caduceus entwined by a pair of serpents crested with a flaming torch, supported by an open book and a pair of laurels replace the Lion Capital; and the name, place and motto of the college replace the name of the State. The motto of the college in Sanskrit is ‘विद्यया विन्दते अमृतम्’ (Mantra 2.4, Kenopanishad), which translates to ‘Immortality Through Knowledge’. The Staff of Caduceus symbolises medicine and medical profession; the book symbolises the accumulation and dissemination of medical knowledge and the academic foundation of the institution; the torch with flame is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; and the laurels are symbols, which represent victory, honour and academic excellence.
