Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) and IIT Mandi started functioning from July 2009. Its blue colour emblem has wavy edges resembling a flower, inside of which an open book placed below a rising sun is kept. The border has its name written in Devanagari and English. Its motto is 'ज्ञानम् सर्वजनहिताय' in Sanskrit meaning 'Knowledge is for the Well-being of Everyone' is placed below the circle at the bottom on a banner.

The mountains and river refer to the local topography of snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan mountain ranges; the lightning bolt symbiosis raw energy, power, enlightenment, and the sparking of knowledge; and the laurels represent a traditional laurel wreath, which symbolises academic triumph, victory and the pursuit of honour.
