The gearwheel denotes technology, engineering, interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the lamps symbolise light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the mortarboard hat or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; the book and pen refer to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom.
