The blue colour emblem of Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC) features a traditional lamp,  a red high-rise building, a pair of computers and an electrical transmission line placed in the counter of a blue gearwheel inscribed with the name and place of the college. On a light blue banner placed below the wheel, the initials of the affiliating university is written. At the bottom, the year of establishment of the college is written. The gearwheel denotes denotes technology, engineering, interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the other motifs refer to the subject disciplines of engineering and technology; and the colour blue signifies serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
