The wordmark emblem of Indic Institute of Design & Research (INDIC) features the name of the in serif italics in lowercase supported by an abstract pictorial of three interlocking circles in different colors in gold, blue and black. The motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘असतो मा सद्गमय। तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘From Unreal Lead Me to the Real. From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ is written below the wordmark. The circles represent the integration of life, energy, and knowledge. The circular forms also suggest a ‘bird’s eye view’ or a comprehensive approach to academics and professional development. SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
