The emblem of Kalahandi institute of management & technology (KIMT) is a shield inscribed with the motifs of a mortarboard hat, a star, a pair of laurels, and a pair of connected gears. A banner inscribed with the initials of the college is placed on the shield. The year of establishment of the college is inscribed at the bottom of the shield. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the mortarboard hat or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; the star universally represents guidance, hope, excellence, and achievement. ; and the gearwheels denote engineering and technology.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
