The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the laurels are symbols of ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the mortarboard hat or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; the star universally represents guidance, hope, excellence, and achievement. ; and the gearwheels denote engineering and technology.
