The emblem of Vignan Institute of Technology and Management, Berhampur (VITAM) features a blue shield with orange outlines, features the motifs of a satellite placed inside a gearwheel with orbital lines, a satellite dish antenna, and a computer. The shield is crested by the pegasus, and supported by a pair of torches with flames. The name of the college is inscribed on a blue banner placed above the shield and the place of the college on a blue banner placed below. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the pegasus, the mythical winged horse traditionally represents imagination, freedom, and intellectual brilliance; the gearwheel satellite, antenna and computer refers to engineering; and technology; the orbital lines symbolize global communication, space technology, and the interconnected nature of modern data transmission; the torches with flames are emblems of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi.
