The emblem of Government Degree College, Sopore (GDC Sopore) features an open book supporting a shooting rocket with a green circle atop and crested by a soaring eagle. The motifs are ensconced by a circle of bold red upward pointing arrows. The calligraphy on the right side in Urdu ‘علم کا مقصد انسان سازی ہے’, which translates to ‘The true purpose of knowledge/education is the building of human character’; the calligraphy on the left side ‘نظر کا مقصد عقابی بلندی ہے’, which translates to ‘The true purpose of vision/intellect is to aim for the soaring heights of an eagle’   of the college is written on both sides of the motifs. The name of the college in Urdu ‘گورنمنٹ ڈگری کالج سوپور ’ is written on a yellow banner placed at the bottom. The soaring eagle or ‘Shaheen’ the eagle represents high ambition, vision and intellectual soaring; the rocket launching signifies technological advancement, modern science and future-forward progress; the bold red arrows configured in a rotating circle symbolize continuous momentum, dynamic change and revolutionary development; the book symbolises knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; and the green circle serves as a vital focal point connecting the various themes of the crest.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
