The emblem of Government College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu (GCW Jammu) features a blue circle housing the motifs of an open book with a pen writing on it and a lighted candle with radiant flame. The circle is ensconced by a white circular border inscribed with the name and place in English and motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya,1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’. The book symbolises denotes knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the pen signifies symbolises freedom, intelligence, creativity, professionalism, determination and diligence; and the lit candle symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity.
