These are supported by a pair of green laurels on the sides. The name of the college surmounts the motifs. The name of the place of the college and its year of establishment is written on a green banner below the motifs. The nib of a pen signifies academic learning, writing and the pursuit of literacy; the book refers to knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the mountain peaks honour the regional geography of the institution; the laurels represent excellence, honor civic growth and the celebration of student achievements.

The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla.
