The emblem of Government Degree College, Surankote (GDC Surankote) features a circle with brown motifs of the Peer Panjal Range of mountains, a rising sun, four rising arcs and five stars. The circle is supported by the motto of the college - a Quaranic Arabic quote ‘وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا’, which translates to ‘And Say, 'O my Lord, Increase Me in Knowledge’. The name of the college is written above the circle. All these elements are placed within a black circle. The mountain peaks depict the Middle Himalayan region; the sun represents the dawn of knowledge, enlightenment and the removal of ignorance through higher education; The sweeping, curved white rays on the left side mimic both the pages of a book flipping open and a progressive upward path, reflects academic growth, forward momentum, and the expanding horizons of the student community; and the ascending stars signifies the stages of student achievements, excellence and the constant pursuit of reaching for higher aspirations.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi.
