ASHOKA LAW COLLEGE, KATHUA (ALC KATHUA)

The emblem of Ashoka Law College, Kathua (ALC Kathua) features a circle housing the motifs of an open book, a mortarboard hat, a pair of doves and a pair hands writing with pens and the text ‘Kathua’. The circle is ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name of the college. The motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘विद्या ददाति विनयात्’ (Narayan Pandit, 6, Hitopadesha) which translates to ‘Education Makes one Humble’ is written on a banner placed below the circle. The book symbolises knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the mortarboard hat, graduation cap or Oxford hat denotes educational achievement, equality, tradition and rights of passage; the doves are universal symbol of peace, love, purity and spiritual connection across many cultures; and the pair hands writing with a pen carries a deep, universal symbolism across literature, psychology, art and cultural history.
