The emblem of Government Degree College, Hiranagar (GDC Hiranagar) features an entrance arch with a traditional lamp supported by an open book with the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ (Rishi Parāśara, 1,19.41, Viṣṇu Purāṇa), which translates to  ‘Knowledge is the One That Liberates’ is written at the bottom. An image of Goddess Saraswati is placed on the right and an image of a palm tree placed on the right. All these are ensconced by red circular outlines and surmounted by the name of the college. The book denotes academic excellence, literacy and structured education; the lamp represents the spark of intellect and the removal of the darkness of ignorance; the radiant glow around lamp represents the aura of knowledge spreading outward to civilize and empower the community; the arch or ‘jarokha’ echos traditional Indian architecture and serving as a gateway to higher learning; Goddess Saraswati seated on a lotus while holding a veena, represents music, fine arts, wisdom and cosmic knowledge; the accompanying peacock symbolizes grace and beauty; and the palm tree represents resilience and growth.
