VIGNAN'S LARA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY & SCIENCE (VLITS) The cyan, blue and purple circular seal of Vignan's Lara Institute of Technology & Science (VLITS) features an abstract circular shape created by the repetition of ‘VL’ holding a star in the centre. The star refers to excellence and leadership; the rays emanating from the star refer to the institution's reach and impact; and the five triangles refer to the diverse fields of engineering. SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
