The Cabinet of Government of India approved the proposal for establishment of Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies (CIHCS) on May 19, 2010 as Society under Societies Registration Act and the CIHCS has been registered on November 10, 2010. Its emblem has a ‘Yantra’ on pedestal with dhwaja placed on a lotus base. Its motto ‘Atma Deepo Bhava’ is written on a yellow banner below this. The name of the institution in English, Devanagari and Tibetan are written in the white border around the emblem in red colour.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.

An abstract depiction of the holy river Prachi supports the tilak. The motifs are ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name of the college. The seal is placed on a decorated platform. On a blue ribbon placed below the star, the name and place of the college are written.
